Happy Birthday, Rumi

Well, what can I say I am a lover of poetry and if you are familiar with Rumi and his poetry, then you understand completely. Thank you for your gift, Rumi, and here’s to loving you…Happy Birthday!!!

The name Mowlana Jalaluddin Rumi stands for Love and ecstatic flight into the infinite. Rumi is one of the great spiritual masters and poetical geniuses of mankind and was the founder of the Mawlawi Sufi order, a leading mystical brotherhood of Islam. Rumi was born in Wakhsh (Tajikistan) under the administration of Balkh on 30 September 1207 to a family of learned theologians

Escaping the Mongol invasion and destruction, Rumi and his family traveled extensively in the Muslim lands, performed pilgrimage to Mecca and finally settled in Konya, Anatolia, then and part of Seljuk Empire. When his father Bahaduddin Valad passed away, Rumi succeeded his father in 1231 as professor in religious sciences. His love and his bereavement for the death of Shams found their expression in a surge of music, dance and lyric poems. Rumi is the author of six volumes didactic epic work.

If there is any general idea underlying Rumi's poetry, it is the absolute love of God.

Are you searching for your soul?
Then come out of your prison.
Leave the stream and join the river that flows into the ocean.
Absorbed in this world you've made it your burden.
Rise above this world.
There is another vision..." - Rumi

What Thoughts Create Your Reality ?

So, what are your beliefs and perceptions and what is true for you? The point of examining “our reality” is to suggest that it is necessary to have an understanding and to accept the responsibility for creating our “reality” or life experiences. In order to have a clear path and to see where we are going we must be able and take the time to examine exactly where we are in our thought practices. There was a time in my life when I thought I was doing everything that I could possibly do to create happiness and peace of mind but the “reality” was that nothing was working. I was unaware of how powerful my thoughts were and I was certainly unaware of the thoughts I was entertaining. I read a book that lead me to take inventory of what thoughts I was holding and I was astonished as I had always thought of myself as being a positive thinking person. Well, I can attest to this…after reading the book and taking my inventory…I changed my thoughts and behaviors, which lead to a dramatic change in my life experience, which ultimately lead me to share these words with you. I no longer play the negative games of futuristic “what-ifs” nor do I engage in the negative games of past choices like “I should have”. I only entertain in my mind what I want to create and yes, it takes practice, but trust me when I say, it’s worth it!!

If your life is full of happiness and fulfilling and is everything that your heart desires then this will simply be an affirmation for you. On the other hand, if your life is full of worry, agony, heartache, nervous anticipation, sorrow or regret, then becoming aware of what thoughts you are holding has the potential to help you re-create your life experience. If we practice a lifestyle that is positive thought and action laced with loving energy, compassion, empathetic understanding, and kindness in each and every action then our reality will reflect the same. We create where we are and who we are by what we think. We can laugh or we can cry. We can enjoy ourselves or we can be miserable. Only you make the choices of the thoughts that your mind entertains.

Now that we know that we create the world around us by our thoughts and beliefs, and our perceptions of events and we know that we have the ability and the power to improve on our experiences, understand that it is simply a matter of choice. When we create new thoughts or different perceptions we have the ability to peacefully and perfectly change our life experiences. If we wish a peaceful life experience we must perceive truth and speak it. We must be aware of our thoughts and if our thoughts are not ones that include our heart’s desire, simply refuse those thoughts. You are the one and only one in control of your thoughts so take responsibility and be aware that you can change what you are thinking. If you accept this concept then you cannot blame anyone else for the results produced by your thoughts. At any moment you can choose to create a different reality for you by simply being aware and making choices. We make choices all day every day and it appears that for some it’s easier to blame someone else for our perception of well being and happiness. Only you have the power to create your thoughts and if you are not happy and your life is not what you want, it’s because of the thoughts you hold. Change the thoughts that you are holding and your life experience will change. The “reality” is this…it’s not someone else, it’s you…it’s not where they are, it’s right here, right now with you…it’s not back then or in the future, it’s NOW.

If our ultimate objective is to discover our true Self then that discovery requires that we know what we are thinking. If we can accept that, then we are able to live our lives fully and that can be a liberating and an empowering experience. Our minds are the most powerful tool that we possess. Anything we desire is ours for the “thinking.” We must believe it is possible to exert power over our own thoughts and we must learn to control our thoughts in order to control our experiences or conditions. With clarity of our thoughts, visions and beliefs, we can turn our thoughts into our desired “reality.” When we have desires we can be specific, we can visualize our desires, we can believe that our desires can become our reality, and finally we can take action. Making positive, conscious choices regarding our reality and the thoughts we hold is truly the key to creating balance and harmony in our “reality”. Take the time to really find out what the 650,000 daily thoughts that you are thinking are all about? You may be surprised and I will guarantee you that once you take your thought inventory, you will make some “thinking changes”!!

Love Is The Tool

"As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue in my love. If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. This is my commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you" JC

Love is what all of us really want and are looking for. Love is the answer regardless of the question. When we are involved with Love we cannot participate in hate or war or worry or greed or anger or hurtful gossip and negative verbiage or discontent of any kind. A Spirit focused in Love, is void of all discontent, it simply does not exist. For those of us who have children, there are times when perhaps we may disagree with their choices but their choices do not equate to a denial of our Love. We will always have Love for our children regardless of what they may do and that is the practice of Unconditional Love. It would be a wonderful thing if we, as a society, could really understand and believe in the benefits of unconditional loving to the extent that we become able to extend the practice beyond our children to encompass everyone we come in contact with. In an excerpt from her book, The Hidden Power of the Heart, Sara Paddison eloquently says of Love: “As you sincerely go for deeper levels of love, the results you'll have in well being and increased quality of life will motivate you, leading you to a wider dimensional awareness. The results are so rewarding you can easily develop a passion for self-management. As you continue to send out love, the energy returns to you in a regenerating spiral... As love accumulates, it keeps your system in balance and harmony. Love is the tool, and more love is the end product.”

Is it possible to give or receive too much Love? When have you ever had an experience of someone loving you or you loving someone else unconditionally and you said, “Oh, that’s too much…please stop loving me or that's too much love...I can't give anymore!!” The only true value in life is Love. Everything else pales in comparison. Being present in the Love exchange is the greatest choice we can make. All things are possible with Love. When we truly Love one another, spiritual things happen to us. Our awareness is profoundly awakened by the essence of Love and we are elevated emotionally and spiritually. When we practice unconditional loving and loving-kindness, whatever your issue is, if you approach it with Love, it will slowly dissipate and before you know it, it’s gone.

Love is the core and the true essence of who each of us really are. The deeper the Love, the more profound the Peace and the more Elevated we become, which is really “The Heart of the Matter.” If Love is the tool, and it is, and more Love is the end product, which it is, then sharing Love with all persons as a society will be the beginning of peace in our Nation and beyond. We can choose to extend loving kindness to someone every day and maybe, just maybe, that someone will pass it on and the world will change into a better place for everyone. Loving-kindness comes in many forms and it is easy to engage so just find the form that is you. The time is now and the place is where ever you are and it is with you that the practice must begin. Present someone with an offer to help with whatever or give someone your heartfelt encouragement or feed someone that is hungry as there are thousands who are in need or volunteer to help a child in need as the numbers are overwhelming.  The children could truly benefit greatly from your loving-kindness and please remember that the children did not orchestrate their circumstance so please consider reaching out to them. Start today and share your Love. We are rewarded beyond anything that we could possibly imagine when we practice Love. Nothing in this world is more important than Loving. For those who believe and practice Love and Loving-Kindness, your ability to give Love is your greatest gift. Not everyone has had a positive experience of being Loved, so to those of us who are capable of giving Love, may we provide Loving energy to all of those we meet…beginning today.

The Silence

One day the Pharisees asked Jesus, “When will the kingdom of God begin? Jesus replied, “ The Kingdom of God isn’t ushered in with visible signs. You won’t be able to say, It has begun here in this place or there in that part of the country. For the Kingdom of God is within you.” Luke 17:20-21 KJV

I started my day very early in the morning by going to the beach. I love the beach and I go there often. The beach is my paradise. My favorite thing to do at the beach is stand where the waves meet the sand and experience the shifting under my feet as the tide moves the sand slowly back into the ocean. I love to feel that energy. It’s like a sweet touch directly from God in that it is powerful yet gentle and loving.

On this particular day, I was sitting in my beach chair just enjoying the beautiful day and I began to meditate like I had done so many times before. I was listening to the rhythm of the waves when so subtly I became acutely aware of the Silence between the waves. My mind was still and quiet and in the Silence, I felt the ocean in a way that words could never describe. I had been to the beach hundreds of times and had meditated often, but on this day the Silence and my spirit became one in a way that captured my heart and loved my soul. In this Silence between the waves, rests complete calm and serenity. Some call it bliss. I felt the unmistakable essence of spirit or connectedness; an inner sense that I was not a random, isolated creature but part of something sacred and infinitely larger than myself. I discovered my heart’s desire in the form of power, substance, and strength and in that present moment, I gained a clear understanding that God’s blessings are abundant and with me everywhere all of the time. Contact with the center of peace, the Silence, within me became the catalyst for my clear and precise understanding of God’s love for all humankind. The Silence was my elevator of understanding. My perception changed instantly that day and my awareness has continued to grow. The experience of finding God in the Silence that day has become my daily experience of finding God everywhere and in everything. Once I felt the “Presence” in the Silence, and understand clearly…it is felt… my heart’s desire was and is to continue to seek the Silence and just “Be” what I was created to be. Deepak Chopra said that each of us is here to discover our true Self and that essentially we are spiritual beings who have taken manifestation in physical form. We are not human beings that have occasional spiritual experiences…we are spiritual beings that have occasional human experiences.

I encourage everyone to take the time to find the Silence. We are the same in that we all have the potential to connect with the Silence. In the Silence there is a love that cannot be denied and an energy that, once felt, is longed for. This love experience that can happen in an instant changes lives and is the driving force that leads to the recognition of God’s Omnipresence.

Compassion’s Embrace

My brother, Jay, had a beautiful experience recently while involved with Volunteerism for Humanity through his company. Each team could choose how they wanted to volunteer so Jay and his team decided that they would assist the homeless population via an organization called Compassion Today. This organization feeds over a hundred people each and every day and in addition, they also offer a clothing room where anyone who comes to have a meal can also gather five items from the clothing room.

Jay and his team did serve food with a smile and a tenderness of heart as they reached out to the many people in need of food and assistance. Later in the process, Jay became aware that the items of clothing that were offered did not meet the needs of the people. There weren’t very many clothes to begin with and what was there was not sufficient to help in the hot summer weather. There were no t-shirts or shorts or any summer clothing at all. Jay lives in an area where the temperature during summer can reach 100 degrees or better daily.

At the end of the day, Jay was in his closet gathering anything and everything “summerish” he could get his hands on and his team members were doing likewise. By the time he was finished he had completely filled the back of his SUV. The next day he called Brother Joe at Compassion Today to tell him they were bringing clothes and supplies. Brother Joe was very appreciative and said they were just discussing how the "plates and cups" cost was really eating up their budget with the high numbers they were feeding. Jay just smiled and told Brother Joe, “We have already purchased 700 plates and 2000 cups for you.” Jay considered the pre-purchase to be a direct intervention from God and I say that this is what happens when living yourelevatedlife.

When he was there unloading the clothing and supplies, he met a woman who shared her story with him. Jay said she was very upbeat and full of excitement yet humble beyond description as she related to him that she and her husband had both lost their jobs and were truly between a rock and a hard place and how grateful they were to have a place like Compassion Today to come to for help. This woman had a certain sweetness about her and a “life of the party-everything is going to be okay” attitude that was full of kindness and gratitude. She told Jay that she and her husband both had interviews for jobs and the future was looking bright. She related other personal details of her journey that tugged at Jay’s heart. In that precious moment, the Spirit of Jay’s mother came forward and the hearts of those present were graced with the unconditional loving kindness of God.

Service is the highest form of consciousness on our planet. Service is highly regarded in spiritual life because it diminishes our selfishness, allowing us to identify with others as members of one human family. We make the earth a more heavenly place through serving others. When we serve others, everyone becomes elevated. Maybe your “Service” will be a smile or nod or a kind word or deed. Hopefully, the day will come when all of us will choose to focus our thoughts daily on doing our part to “lift" a tired or weary heart. Thank you, Jay, for your beautiful heart and for your service and for all of you everywhere for serving others and elevating everyone.

”I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink'...Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” Matthew 25:35-40

A Great Soul

Most of us are familiar with Gandhi but for those who are not or those of us who may have forgotten, here are some facts about him and some of his thoughts. Gandhi is often called Mahatma -- the Hindu term for "great soul". Gandhi is revered in India as "the father of the nation". Since his death he has become the source of inspiration for non-violent political movements such as the civil rights movement in the USA and Northern Ireland. Gandhi's insistence that means were more important than the ends distinguished him from other great political leaders of the twentieth century. Gandhi impresses upon us, once again, along with numerous other writings and thoughts on our website that we become our thoughts. That concept is key to the universal understanding of living life in peace and harmony to the benefit of all. We are all blessed to have the privilege of exposure to the essence of his Spirit and thoughts.

Works By Mahatma Gandhi

Man often becomes what he believes himself to be.
If I keep on saying to myself
that I cannot do a certain thing,
it is possible that I may end
by really becoming incapable of doing it.
On the contrary,
if I have the belief that I can do it,
I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it,
even if I may not have it at the beginning.

Keep your thoughts positive,
because your thoughts become your words.
Keep your words positive,
because your words become your behaviors.
Keep your behaviors positive,
because your behaviors become your habits.
Keep your habits positive,
because your habits become your values.
Keep your values positive,
because your values become your destiny.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For me, the different religions are
beautiful flowers from the same garden,
or they are branches of the same majestic tree.
Therefore, they are equally true,
though being received and interpreted
through human instruments equally imperfect
To me, God is Truth and Love;
God is ethics and morality:
God is fearlessness.
God is the source of Light and Life
and yet He is above and beyond all these.
God is conscience...
He is a personal God to those who need His personal presence.
He is embodied to those who need His touch.
He is the purest essence.
He simply is to those who have faith.
He is all things to all men.
There is no god higher than Truth.
The Cry of Mother Earth
I am an amateur photographer and always looking for unique images. This image is certainly unique and the message timely. To all of the mothers, thank you for your beauty and loving-kindness. Enjoy.
The Cry of Mother Earth
From the beginning of time
She carries our feet
Mother of All
Blueprint of our ground
She utilizes unity, love and harmony
This essence of life
Arouses us with nurturing rains
An alliance in fullness
Grateful for what is given
Fertility
Maturity
Vitality
No possession
Just respect
The Great Mother cries
She begs to open the door
Of a strenuous awareness
Now the veils between worlds are delicate
Arise to make the land green again
And find the layers of Mahimata
Gathering of exposed divinity
As outside as inside
Perceive and become
Riders of the Light
Warriors of the Rainbow
Not Too Bad
Recently during my everyday contact with people, I was struck by the most common reply received after an initial greeting of “Hello, how are you?” or “Hey, how are you doing?” What was said most often was, “Not too bad”. Now, you might say, “Well, what’s the issue with that response?” I am just wondering why that answer would be put forth so frequently instead of a more positive response. On a few occasions after receiving the response of “Not too bad” my husband said, “Well, isn’t ‘not too bad’ the same as “Pretty good”? The people we asked looked at us smiling interestingly and said, “Sure, I guess so.” So, after asking that question we asked, “Well why wouldn’t you just say that?” The most common answer was, “I have no idea, I just didn’t think about it.”
Here is my question. Why do we find it so incredibly easy to respond using a negative word like bad, as opposed to using positive words like good, great, couldn’t be better, if things were any better I’d have to be twins, and the list goes on and on which is my point? Why would we choose negativity in our communication when we really are not intending to be negative? Perhaps it is because we don’t place value on negative comments. Maybe most people think it probably doesn’t really mean anything to say ‘not too bad’. It is the subtleness of the usage if negativity that is disturbing.
Being thoughtful of the words used in our conversations is of great importance in that it is a reflection of what thoughts we are holding. If our first response is “Not too bad” what thoughts are we holding? Did we think that we were going to experience a sort-of-bad day or a not-great day? In our lackadaisical approach to conversation we fall into the grips of the water-cooler chat where we repeat what we have heard rather than speaking with knowledge and intention and attention to the words that we use. Our lives reflect the usage of negativity in words and behavior but most of us do not connect this usage with the outcome. If you think you had a really “ugly” day and things did not go your way, you can be assured that negativity was involved at some point. If you are constantly dwelling on thoughts of fear, worry, anger, hate, and failure, you will become depressed and unhappy.
The words that we use are like the ingredients of a recipe. If the outcome of the dessert recipe (our reality) is to be sweet, then we should make the effort to use sugar (positive), instead of salt (negative). We, alone, are responsible for what we think, say and do. We all make choices every minute of every day. Remember, your life is what your thoughts make of it. Is your reality “Not too bad…?” Positive thinking is at the very least a habit. Maybe it deserves your consideration.
“Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” ~PHIL 4:8~
”All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think…we become.” ~Buddha~
Lights...Camera...Action
Each day we create our own, unique episode of a production called, well, in honor of a famous soap opera we all have most likely at least heard of, we’ll call it, “As Our World Turns”. We are the Director, the Actor, and the Writer of each and every one of our episodes. Our episodes (days) can be happy and full of compassion and joy and represent peace of mind and a feeling of pure bliss. We can choose.
So, what thoughts will your episode for today reflect? Will it start with gratitude and thankfulness or anger and fear? Will you mostly smile or will you carry a frown? And what kind of energy will you exude? Will it be positive or negative energy. Which will yours be? Have you ever even thought about what kind of energy you are expressing? You can have a desire to engage the world with loving-kindness or hatefulness. You can blame things and circumstances on others or will you accept the responsibility for your perception of those things and circumstances? What exactly will make you happy today? Will you allow someone else’s perception of life make you angry by the words they choose or by their deeds? Or, will you recognize that you hold all of the power…it is, after all, your episode. It isn’t what other people say or do that is important…it is your perception of what they say and do that really matters. Others don’t control what thoughts you are holding, or do they? Are you in full control of what you are thinking or have you ever even thought about the things that you think? Do you know what thoughts you are thinking today or any other day for that matter? About how many random thoughts do you think you have in any given day?
Can you just “Be” or are you one that reaches out in an attempt to control and create “what ifs” that don’t exist or will you dwell in subtle negativity of yesterday? We become what we think. Our daily episodes become manifest through our thoughts. So, pay attention to what you are thinking, be grateful for your blessings, and become aware and understand your thinking process. In our minds we can create wonderful episodes of happiness or episodes of discontent. Which are you doing?
If Tomorrow Never Comes
Many of us find ourselves so very busy these days and complaining that there just isn’t enough time…for whatever. There are a few who would actually consider the possibility that this might be the last day. For most of us, that thought is just too scary so we don’t go there, yet there are several people, loved ones of everyone or maybe even us, who may not wake up today or will not wake up tomorrow. I found the following poem by an unknown author so perhaps the words will help someone “slow down” long enough to experience and express "the now."
If I knew it would be the last time that I'd see you or talk with you on the phone
The time would be shared together as neither of us would be separate or alone
If I knew it would be the last time that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss and call you back for one more.
If I knew it would be the last time I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video each action and word, so I could play them day after day.
If I knew it would be the last time, I could spare an extra minute or two
To stop and say "I love you," instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.
If I knew it would be the last time I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more, so I can let just this one slip away.
For surely there's always tomorrow to make up for an oversight,
And we always get a second chance to make everything right.
There will always be another day to say our "I love you's,"
And certainly there's another chance to say our "Anything I can do's?"
But just in case I might be wrong and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you and I hope we never forget,
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance you get to hold your loved one tight.
So if you're waiting for tomorrow, why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes, you'll surely regret the day,
That you didn't take that extra time for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
And you were too busy to grant someone what turned out to be their last wish.
So hold your loved ones close today, whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them and that you'll always hold them dear,
Take time to say "I'm sorry," "please forgive me," "thank you" or "its okay".
And if tomorrow never comes you'll have no regrets about today.
